MURASAKI MADNESS

“Murasaki Madness” is inspired by the Japanese name for the colour purple. I created this vibrant work on chunky box canvas and later had in beautifully framed in a black box tray.

This work is mainly inspired by my practice of yoga and meditation. Purple corresponds to Sahrasrara, the crown chakra on the top of the head. This particular chakra is said to influence our creativity.

SPACE RITUAL

“Space Ritual” is an eye-catching abstract work in blue, purple and gold on linen canvas created using texture paste, ink, egg shell and chiyogami paper from Japan. The title is taken from a song by Hawkwind who I listen to a lot while creating my pieces as their music lends itself to my artistic process. 

I’ve recently had this painting framed and the white tray frame shows off the colours beautifully.  A splash of colour for any room – the calm tomes would make it particular ideal for a bedroom, study or perhaps a yoga/meditation space.

STORM ENERGY

“Storm Energy” is a heavier and darker painting than my other much brighter abstracts. I painted this work in January one year. At this time in the northern hemisphere personal energy is low and the days are short and grey. The modern celebrations of Christmas and New Year are over and the long, light evenings are far away. 

But “Storm Energy” also suggests the electrical charge in the air during tempestuous weather which is so revitalising and can pull us out of seasonal slumps. Likewise, the depleted mood of the black and blue is shaken up by the flashes of red paint and gems in this work. The red also brings to mind the flurry of activity at the start of a new year which we hope to develop through the grey days of winter and the bright jewels hint at the coming of spring.
